A big hug for Linnea and Rick

The wonderful Nelson/Seume family cabin on Big Wood Lake that has been the venue for many of our club summer BBQs has been badly burned in a fire. We are all just sick about it especially knowing how much the cabin means to our members Linnea and Rick Seume and Linnea's mom, Shirley. No word yet on the extent of the damage and if rebuilding will be possible but we are all hoping this wonderful cabin can be saved. It is a gem of a mid-twentieth century cabin. Not many of those left anymore. It was filled with memories and memorabilia. Our hearts go out to you Linnea, Rick and Shirley.

Gear up for the Annual Plant Sale, Planting the Sign Garden, Newly Posted Weeding Schedule

Two potting parties on consecutive Thursdays have yielded a great collection of plants for our Annual Plant Sale! Thanks to everyone who helped out, and thanks to everyone who brought treats and beverages! As usual, we had a great time and got lots of work done!! (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of the second party but here is a picture from the first!)

Kris, Georgianne, Sandy and Mary C.
Others who potted were Ruth, Sue, Pam, Rhonda and Charlene. Did I miss anyone?

We will definitely need more plants so pot plants up at home if you have them. If you need potting soil, Kris still has some left at her house, give her a call.

We have done well with veggies and annuals so if you have any extras from seeds you started in the spring, we would love to have them!

The plant sale will be held on June 3 as part of Big Gust Days festivities. We will again be in the parking lot of TDawg's. Here are the particulars:

  • Friday June 2 around 4:00 Kris will bring the hay wagon and leave it behind TDawgs. Deliver plants to the wagon. She will also need help transporting plants from her house to TDawgs on Friday and Saturday. Let her know if you can help with that.
  • Hang on to any flat boxes you have for the sale. They are great for our customers to fill up and transport their purchases home! We go through lots so bring what you can.
  • Sale setup is at 6:00 am at TDawgs on Sat June 3. We will be setting up canopies, tables and arranging and price plants. We will need lots of help so please let Kris know if you will be available for setup. The big plus about helping with setup, you get first pick of plants!!
  • We will need help throughout the sale answering customer's questions, getting them checked out and helping them carry their purchases to their vehicles.  In between helping customers you can shop for yourself!!
  • We will need help with clean up after the sale. Noon to 1:00 (usually done by 12:30 or so). Plants go on half-price sale at 11:00 AM so come for cleanup and take advantage of sale prices!!
  • The plant sale is our only fundraiser. We depend on this income throughout the year so let Kris know what shifts you can take and what additional plants you will be bringing.
The plant sale is a lot of fun!! But if you can't volunteer, be sure to at least stop by and do some shopping!! Our members are some of our best customers!!

Planting the sign garden will take place on Thursday June 1 at 5:30 or whenever you can get there. We will have lots of beautiful annuals to plant and we will have burgers (or whatever) at Dreamers afterward on the club. (You must buy your own beer though 😏). So come and get dirty and have a burger!!

Keeping the community gardens weeded throughout the year is a big chore but if we all pitch in it is a breeze. The weeding schedule is posted on the blog under Weeding on the menu bar so have a look at your assigned week. If you have an issue, try to trade with someone or contact Kris.

Reminder, Annual Potting Party, Thursday, May 4, 5:30 PM at Kris Henning's

A beautiful day is in store for the potting party this year--sunny with a high of 61 degrees!!
Tuesday and Wednesday will be perfect as well for getting those plants dug up.

Prepping plants ahead of time for the plant sale makes a big difference in the quality of the product we provide our long time customers. The annual plant sale is the major source of fundraising from our club.

If you have plants to be potted but can't attend, drop them at Kris's or Pam's house any time between then and now.

Dress to get dirty!
Bring extra plants from your own gardens to be potted up for the plant sale
Bring any extra 4", quart and gallon pots you can spare
Potting soil provided by the club
Refreshments by Kris and Mary C

This is always a fun event!

If you can't come on 5:30, come when you can! There will be plenty to do!!
