Three Fabulous gardens!

Heavy overcast did not stop attendees of the 2017 Garden Club Community Garden Tour from thoroughly enjoying the three gardens we visited this year. Approximately 13 of us toured Julie Roberts', Jenn Doornink's and Rhonda Johnson's gardens. Here are a few snaps of the evening's tour.

Julie Roberts' Gardens

Julie's beautiful vegetable garden and potting shed
In front of the potting shed, Julie in the center with Sandy, Ruth,
Mary and Lucille to her right and Janet and Linnea on the left.

I finally learned why these stakes have holes and hooks!!
Who knew! Well, Julie did, obviously! It's always great to
learn new things.

Cool cucumber trellis!

Noting many of the handy details in this great veggie garden

A fountain and a boardwalk around the house, some of my
favorite garden features!

Jenn Doornick's Gardens

Lushness and color are two of the outstanding features of Jenn's gardens

Jenn's gardens are all about color!
These amazing day lilies dazzle the eye.

Rhonda Johnson's Gardens

The formal sweep of  this garden is set off with magnificent hosta.

Rhonda uses empty space to accentuate the individual plants

Color and texture stand out against the white rails of the
wrap around porch

Purple, lavender and orange with a boarder of silver, beautiful!

Another beautiful veggie garden!

Tons of peas ready to pick! I enjoyed quite a large handful myself!

Can't get enough of this lavender and orange! Just beautiful!

Had to get a picture of  Rhonda next to the blue
of the wild chicory!

As usual, a wonderful spread of refreshments followed the tour (sorry, I forgot to get pictures). Thank you to Sandy, Charlene and Mary

Thank you to Linnea for organizing the tour and to the Julie, Jenn and Rhonda for sharing their magnificent gardens with us!!

Annual Community Garden Tour Detail

The weather is looking good for Thursday's garden tour. Overcast but no rain! So far anyway. That could change as we all well know. Carpool will meet at the Grantsburg High School at 5:15 hoping to be on the road by 5:25 to be at the first garden which is only a few blocks away by 5:30.

We will be visiting 3 gardens on the tour this year.

We will begin at Julie Roberts' 414 Madison Ave in Grantsburg (across from Linnea's house). We will expect to be there from 5:30 to about 6:15. Then we head over to Jenn Doornink's 22624 South Williams Rd from about 6:30-7:15. Then, we will have refreshments at Rhonda Johnson's 13035 State Road 48 after touring her gardens from about 7:30 to 8:15. These times are just a guess but if you are not able to make all the gardens it will at least give you an idea where we will be as the evening progresses.

All Garden Club events are open to the public! We also encourage members to bring friends and relatives to the tour. It is a fun event. Hope to see you all there!!

Denim and Plaid, fun time at Charlene's!

Rain threatened the Denim and Plaid garden party at Charlene's on June 22 but skies cleared and the evenings repast couldn't have enjoyed better weather. Charlene's gardens were at their best. The menu was well rounded and, as usual, delicious. Charlene's calico beans were a big hit; the recipe can be found in the garden club cookbook! Approximately 15 members and friends attended. It was great to see Lucille and to welcome Sharon Johnson as a guest.

Chatting after a delicious supper.

Not pictured are Sandra and McKenzie who left a little early.

Big thank yous to Charlene and Don for hosting the event and to Mary C for all her help.

Library Gardens maturing nicely!

If you haven't been to the Grantsburg Library lately, stop by if only to look at the gardens! This is the third summer for the gardens and they are maturing nicely. A few new plants were added this spring and some plants will have to be divided after blooming. The rain garden was enlarged to accommodate the volume of rainwater coming off the roof. As with all gardens, the library gardens are a work in progress.
